It’s round and it’s yellow

A very odd fellow

I found on the living room floor.

It’s not good to eat

It’s some kind of cat treat

But I’m not sure what it is for.

The news feed is whizzing past at the moment, so it is not easy to keep up, but great to see so much activity. I have added an image at the top to see if we can stop Facebook posting our mug shots! (It didn't work...).

First and foremost, we have two new members this week, both of whom have contributed to Writers Abroad anthologies. Welcome aboard, Susan Eames and Bruce Dodson!

Monday Muse this week is a great selection of word prompts and picture prompts from Crilly. Alyson has posted them on behalf of Crilly, who is recovering from a hip operation – see below. Usual drill – 500 words (or poem) in 20 minutes or so. Just go where the inspiration takes you.

Richard is down for this week’s blog post and we wait with bated breath to see what topic he’ll cover.

Apologies if I’ve missed anything, but the Bragging stool was unoccupied last week. Considering the fabulous run of WA successes recently, members have to have a break sometimes! But I can mention that Nicola has a new release today: Unspeakable in her ‘Beyond Human’ series. Dianne recently released the fifth book in her WWII series ‘The Yankee Years’, Only One Remedy. Those are certainly worth a brag.

Contributions are due for the WA Magazine 7th edition by 30th September. Ideally, please post yours onsite for others to comment on if you have time. Mea culpa, just about to post mine…

The October Challenges and Opportunities are still on, but the November ones will be posted soon. If you know of any appropriate competitions or opportunities, please post details and links in the forum once it’s up.

Crilly has been out of action for a short time while having a hip operation. We wish her all the best for her recovery and trust that she is using any period of immobility to get a lot of writing done!

That’s all this week. If I’ve missed anything or got anything wrong please let me know.

Have a creative week.

Sorry for the delay, I have been out and about and enjoying life in an unusually sunny Amsterdam with my cousin and her husband who came to visit. My head was literally in the clouds at the top of the Amsterdam Lookout Tower!

  • Alyson has written a blog that will make you salivate as it's all about using the sense of taste in your novel. So next time you have a choccie make sure you savour it mindfully and think about how you would describe it and how that taste sensation could add depth to your character.

  • The Bragging Stool is sizzling with our successes. Jill has won the Yeovil Festival Short Story Prize. Go Jill! Alyson has had not one, but two stories published in a single issue of People's Friend, and the go-getting Sue has won first prize on Ad Hoc fiction! Crilly, Chris and I were also published on Ad Hoc Fiction this week.

  • Jo has posted juicy prompts and quirky photos on the Monday Muse forum to get our pens flying over the paper. Why would anyone every put a swan on the back seat of their car? There is a story in there somewhere...

  • Maggie has posted her writing vision for the coming five years and has shared her hopes and challenges for her future writing career and how being a member of Writers Abroad can support her in achieving those goals.

  • Sadly, Bieke has decided to leave the group because of the difficult, personal circumstances she faces at the moment. It has been a pleasure to have such a talented lady in the group and we are all very sorry to see her go.

  • Next Formal chat is Sunday 24th September at 11.00 am CET on Skype. Nigel is in the chair.

Well that’s it! Hope you all have a very creative week! If I have forgotten something please shout.
